I'm just going to leave this here as an idea for when this project takes off (pun intended): HDMI broadcast from model to control unit.

I'm not saying it should be implemented in full spec, but I have a compact camera with digital out, and I'm sure most higher-quality camera rigs would have HDMI instead of traditional analog output found on most FPV systems. If it were possible to attach a cable to retrieve even a sample stream of the live feed from a HDMI device, I think the feature would have a lot of usability.

If the return signal is congested, compression or downsampling before Tx might help mitigate bandwidth issues. If compute overhead is a factor, the HDMI stream could probably be selectively sub-sampled as draft-quality video.

Thoughts?

It is an idea, but i am not sure how practical it would be since most people use the video signal to just preview the actual perspective of the camera and record the footage it self on board the unit. So i am unsure how it would actually change anything if the signal is transmitted from HDMI and be tempered with before sending anything back.

This certainly is a thought but for now the HD part of the video is the actual overlay you see on the FPVC screen since the signal is converted from analog to digital as soon as it gets to the FPVC unit (unlike FPVC Basic where the signal is only viewed through the analog output of the Video receiver.

I was thinking the same thing as agenthex.
It would be nice with some sort of DV-link, or maby just a possibillity to send pictures (snapshots) from a onboard digital camera.

This would be great for reconnaissance and UAV-purposes.

Sending HD through RF isn't something new and can definitely be done. However since people who would actually need it aren't that many and there is no budget to deviate from the main plan right now i can say that for the time being it is in the "Idea" stages but is definitely a possibility for OSRC.
